Composite Resin Fillings

Tooth caries causes loss of tooth structure (enamel and dentin) and if left untreated will result in involvement of the pulp which will lead to infection. To arrest the degradation of a tooth due to caries, composite resin fillings are done. The process involves the removal of caries and cleaning out the decay, etching, and bonding with the composite resin. The filling material is used to form the shape of the tooth lost by caries or decay and is restored to the form of the tooth.

A composite resin is a mixture of microscopic ceramic and glass particles dispersed in a plastic resin that can be bonded to teeth.
